The generation of acoustic gravity waves in the lower ionosphere due to the absorption of solar radiation associated with solar flares is examined. It is shown that the characteristic times of solar-flare-associated disturbances in the neutral atmosphere to heights of 100 km are limited by periods of 6 min. According to phase measurements, these waves produce a significant change in the electron density profile in the D-region. The fundamental harmonic of the generated disturbance has a period close to the Brent-Vaisala period at a height where the main absorption of solar radiation occurs. Experimental data from the oblique sounding of the lower ionosphere agree with theoretical calculations.
