An analysis of experimental data shows that, for the magnetosphere, the value of the hydrodynamic similarity criterion of the Strouhal number is 0.3, which is different from the value of 0.2 which is characteristic of the flow around axisymmetric bodies in conventional hydrodynamics. Long-period geomagnetic pulsations with T not less than 360 sec accompanying sudden storm commencements (SCCs) may be due to SCC-induced oscillations of the magnetosphere.
