A comparison of theoretical estimates of particle acceleration in the magnetotails of some planets with experimental data is presented. It is shown that the theory is able to describe the energetic particle bursts in the magnetotails of the Earth and Mercury by a uniform mechanism of particle acceleration connected with the rapid development of tearing instability.
