The author proposes the nova light curve plotted in axes "logarithm of envelope radius, outburst amplitude" as the main criterion for classification of the novae. The criterion components - the outburst amplitude, coefficients of the slope of the linear parts in the light curve and their length are discussed in detail. Some general questions related to this classification are also considered.
