The Fesenkov-Parenago method permits the determination of the effective compression of the Milky Way Galaxy with respect to its equatorial plane on the basis of star counts. The weak point of the method is that absorption of stellar light can significantly distort estimates of galactic compression. This paper presents a formula for determining the compression of the Galaxy from star counts in two arbitrary directions in the plane perpendicular to the radius vector of the observer. The major feature of the formula is that it lets one avoid star counts in the galactic plane where absorption of stellar light is maximal.
