A description is given of a general method for simulating gas flow in
binary stars. The method is employed to examine mass transfer in a
system resembling the short-period cataclysmic variable stars including
novae, recurrent novae, dwarf novae, and nova-like variables. The system
investigated is scaled to resemble the dwarf nova Z Cam.
