The effects of non-gravitational processes are more prominent in galaxy groups, making them a crucial environment to study in order to understand the origin of excess entropy observed in groups and clusters. The interpretation of the mean and scatter of global scaling relations and of statistical properties derived from detailed spatial profiles requires a well-defined sample. To assess the magnitude of selection biases, we constructed a complete X-ray flux-limited sample of galaxy groups and observed it with Chandra. Morphological disturbances are common, which complicates the computation of the radial dependence of the gas properties and introduces scatter in the global scaling relations.
