It is likely that several gamma-ray bursts have been beamed at the Earth from within our galaxy in the last Gy. In previous work, we have established several signficant atmospheric consequences of a galactic typical long-burst GRB, pointing to association with at least one mass extinction. Since GRBs have a wide range of spectral and temporal behavior, we have now explored some of the consquences of varying duration, strong fluctations in flux, and softer/harder spectra.
