Optical counterparts to gamma ray bursts promise to place valuable constraints on the nature and environments of the bursters. If this promise is to be fulfilled, we need to find more counterparts, understand the highly variable gamma ray to optical flux ratios, and obtain more redshift constraints on the bursts. We therefore request up to 18 hours of time (from no more than 2 hours per night) on the 0.9m + imager to search for up to 6 Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) optical counterparts during the 1998 fall semester. Coordination with other optical followup will be through the GRB Coordinate Network (GCN). We will make our data and coordinates of any variable sources found public as soon as we are confident of our results, to maximize the chance of finding a counterpart in time for spectroscopic followup.
