AGILE is a gamma-ray Mission of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) with participation of IASF/INAF, INFN and CIFS, planned to be operational during the second half of 2005. AGILE is optimized to detect and image photons in the 30 MeV - 50 GeV and in the 10 - 40 keV energy ranges. The AGILE Mission scientific program emphasizes a quick response to gamma-ray and hard X-ray transients to promote multi-wavelength studies. We discuss the AGILE scientific goals and the expected instrument performance.
