Although there is a general consensus that hot He-burning horizontal-branch (HB) and post-HB stars are the dominant UV sources in giant ellipticals, it is still debated whether the UV sources are metal-poor or metal-rich. These two scenarios predict significantly different ages for giant ellipticals, and therefore would have an important impact on the cosmological time scale test. Detailed population models indicate that the two scenarios could be discriminated by looking back in time, as they predict substantially different UV-to-V flux ratios as functions of redshift. In order to investigate this problem, GALEX (Galaxy Evolution Explorer) is currently observing elliptical rich clusters in moderate redshits (0.07 < z < 0.20), and this is our first report on the progress of our observations. GALEX is a NASA Small Explorer, launched in April 2003. We gratefully acknowledge NASA's support for construction, operation, and science analysis for the GALEX mission. Yonsei University participation is funded by the Korean Ministry of Science & Technology, for which we are also grateful.
