We present first results from deep GALEX ultraviolet observations of the HST/Cosmos field and use the combined data set to study the morphology and evolution of star-forming galaxies out to z ˜1. GALEX targeted this region as part of its Deep Imaging Survey (DIS), reaching limiting magnitude mNUV <25 AB (5σ ) over most of the 2 sq. degree COSMOS field. More than 50,000 galaxies have been detected in the UV. We discuss the morphologies of the most UV luminous galaxies (UVLGs) and compare these unique systems to their low and high z counterparts.
