A study aimed at determining whether the analysis of the distribution of H II regions via pattern recognition methods can extract information which correlates with morphological type is presented. Topics discussed include the amplification of this information by filtering the original image and the use of the improved information for classification. It is concluded that the accuracy of the classification depends on the detail of the input image.
