Features of neutrino astronomy which are reviewed include: the detectability of cosmic neutrino sources, neutrino stellar phases in massive and lower-mass stars, neutrino emission by stellar shocks, extragalactic neutrino sources, and the probability of detection of cosmic neutrino bursts. Interest in neutrino astronomy increased with the detection by Lande et al. (1974) of a neutrino burst, which has been interpreted as being produced by a collapsing star. It is suggested that earth-based measurement of galactic neutrino bursts can provide a means of determining the physical conditions in stellar interiors during the final evolutionary phases, and that neutrino astronomy will become as important a branch of astronomy as X-ray, gamma, or radio astronomy.
