The scope of the present paper is three-fold: to review the status of
the detection of cosmic ray muon neutrinos of atmospheric origin, to
make an estimate of the cosmic ray background in the Brookhaven Solar
Neutrino Experiment and to briefly examine the possibility of detecting
neutrinos from supernovae and collapsing stars in the Galaxy.
