The slope dV/dl of the radial velocity of a feature close to the direction l = 0° or l = 180° is shown to be a good measure of the distance to the galactic centre. Neither the geometric shape of the feature nor variation of the galactic rotation velocity with affect this distance, only a possibly existing gradient of a galactic expansion (or contraction) velocity field dII/dl influences the result.
