A method is proposed for calculating the field of the galactic component of the high-energy proton radiation in the near-earth region of space. The method enables one to compute the local energy spectra of the particles. The energy range considered is from about 0.02 to 20 GeV, and the calculations are performed for the region from 100 to 1000 km above the earth. The starting point is the interstellar spectrum, and then its solar modulation and geomagnetic separation are taken into account in turn. In calculating local geomagnetic effects, use is made of Stoermer's theory and experimental data in analytical form for the high-latitude region. Spectra computed by the method are in good agreement with data on vertical cutoff hardnesses.
