A new galactic supernova remnant G 299.2-2.9 has been discovered in the ROSAT all-sky survey. It is nearly circular with 15 arcmin diameter and has a centrally filled shape. Several bright optical filaments, ring-like infrared emission and an elliptical radio source confirm the classification as SNR. A spectral analysis of the ROSAT X-ray data yields ambiguous results for absorbing column density and plasma temperature. Trying several combinations of NH and T, the authors have got the most reasonable physical parameters for NH ≍ 5×1021cm-2 and kT ≍ 0.3 keV. This suggests a distance of about 5 kpc, an age of about 8700 yr and an initial kinetic energy of ≡1.6×1050erg.
