We present the preliminary results from the FUSE observations of the bright nearby narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxy Akn 564. We use the continuum slope to better constrain accretion disk models. High ionization emission lines are detected (e.g. Oviλ λ 1032,1038), and their strengths used to derive the physical parameters through photoionization models. We also investigate the presence of the Ovi doublet in absorption as it strongly constrains the ionization state of the UV absorber. Finally, we compare the properties of this NLS1 galaxy with those of normal Seyfert 1 galaxies. Support for this work was provided by NASA through grant number NAG5-10320.
