We present and discuss recent FUSE observations of V356 Sgr, a totally eclipsing interacting binary system (B2V + A2II) with a period of almost 9 days. The FUSE observations were obtained on 3 Sept 2000 from 5:37 to 14:34 UT. Six independent observing periods of 29 to 40 minutes duration span the total eclipse phase plus early egress. During the total eclipse phase strong, broad (FWHM 1200 km/s) emission lines of N III (λ 990 A), O VI (λ 1032, 38 A), N II (λ 1085 A), Si III (λ 1108-13 A), and Fe III (λ 1122-32 A) are seen superposed on a faint non-stellar continuum. The last FUSE observation period begins very shortly after 3rd contact and shows the same broad emission lines and non-stellar continuum along with a rising B-star stellar continuum. We discuss emission line and continuum strengths and shapes, their variation with time, and implications for the distribution of the hot gas. Particular attention is paid to the early egress observations and the information they provide on the origins of bipolar flow seen in system. The stellar continuum and non-stellar continuum seen in the data are also analyzed and discussed. GJP is grateful for support from NASA Grant NAG5-8978.
