Scientific paper

I suggest that the variability of Betelgeuse (alpha Orionis) was known
in pre-classical Greece, and that this knowldge is reflected in the
myths associated with Orion and other figures in Greek mythology. There
is corroboration in parallelmyths from other cultures.
