In this Letter, we study the correlations between the core-dominance parameter R and the core power P_core as well as the extended power P_ext for a core-dominated quasar sample and find further evidence for the anticorrelation between logP_ext and logR (with no correlation between logP_core and logR) for this kind of object. We suggest that this effect might be used to estimate cosmological parameters by assuming that the dispersion of the anticorrelation between logP_ext and logR would be partially caused by the distribution of redshift and the incorrectly adopted model of cosmology. We then demonstrate how to estimate cosmological parameters with this assumption from a sample. For each class of cosmological models (flat, open, and closed), we search for the best fit of the anticorrelation between logP_ext and logR and then take the corresponding values of the cosmological parameters as the preferred ones. When adopting these estimated values of the parameters to calculate the core power of the sources and to make a correlation analysis of this quantity with redshift, we find that the two quantities then become less correlated.
