Since we made the discovery of the first extra-solar planet orbiting a star by precise Doppler spectroscopy, many improvements have been made in the accuracy as well as in the size of ours surveys. I will give an overview of the status of the Geneva planet search surveys. I will present HARPS a new dedicated spectrograph for extra-solar planet searches . It will be installed in Chile in end 2003. This instrument will have the capability to detect telluric planets on short orbits. A discussion on the intrinsic limitations of planet searches by Doppler spectroscopy and on the links with the astrometry planet surveys to be carried out by SIM will be presented.
