An attempt is made to explain conflicting experimental data recently obtained concerning the frequency stability of solar oscillations. Extensive data obtained at the Observatorio del Teide are analyzed to determine the lifetimes and frequencies of the l0 and l1 p-modes. The importance of the lifetime of the mode in determining the frequency is considered. From an analysis of the phase and amplitude behavior of individual modes, a measure of the lifetime is obtained and the frequency of the mode over this lifetime is then found. Several such determinations yield the mean yearly frequencies, which are compared. No conclusive evidence is found for any frequency variation over the period of observation.
