The frequency map analysis method of Laskar is introduced in order to study the dynamics of the well-known logarithmic galactic potential and to investigate the impact of this new approach in galactic dynamics. The reliability of this method is demonstrated by comparison with the results obtained via perturbative techniques and numerical transformations in action-angle variables. By means of frequency map analysis, we provide a global vision of the dynamics of the logarithmic galactic potential over all the phase space, for various values of the perturbation parameter. The resonances whose effect is important in the dynamics are detected with their actual strength, as well as the associated periodic orbits. The location and extent of the chaotic zones can be easily visualised. Comparison with previous studies involving Fourier techniques are also given.
