A possible violation of the freezing-in condition for a magnetic field in a well-conducting plasma within the ideal MHD framework is considered. It is shown that in a perfectly conducting medium there may exist certain singular lines near which the solution to the ideal MHD equations has jumplike magnetic-field singularities, which vanish at an arbitrarily high but finite conductivity, and infinite-density currents. The situation near closed singular lines is analyzed along with possible ways of eliminating the singularities. The example of adiabatically slow variations in the boundary conditions for a force-free magnetic field is used to demonstrate that closed magnetic lines of force are singular solutions and that the continuity of MHD flows of an ideal fluid must be broken on singular lines. It is concluded that: (1) closed magnetic lines of force are singularity in the sense that the adiabatic approximation is not valid in their vicinity; (2) a longitudinal electric field on an O-type singular line should lead to a quasi-cylindrical plasma pinch; and (3) current sheets can appear only on X-type singular lines in the general case of an arbitrary magnetic field.
