The violet (B2Σ+-X2Σ+) system of the CN molecule was produced in a jet-cooled, coronaexcited, supersonic expansion of helium using methyl azide and diazoacetonitrile as precursor molecules. This spectrum was also excited in a Cossart source with a trace of methane in argon. The spectra were recorded with the McMath Fourier transform spectrometer of the National Solar Observatory. In the present work, the rotational structure of the 0-0 through 7-7 and 1-0 through 9-8 vibrational bands was analyzed.
