The formation of alkali-silicate glasses in oxygen-rich stars is studied theoretically. The possibility of Na2SiO2 grains forming in mass-loose oxygen-rich T Tauri and Mira-like variable stars is evaluated within the framework of Turnbull's (1969) theory of glass nucleation in extreme environments. It is shown that the formation of glassy silicate grains of Na2SiO2 is much more likely than the formation of crystalline silicates in oxygen-rich stars.
