The recent discovery of high-redshift galaxies and quasars at never reached distances in the deep universe allows one to look back all or almost all the way to their birth. In the expanding universe, the more distant galaxies are, the younger they are observed to be. Very faint anisotropies are revealed in the uniform diffuse background of the sky. From the beautiful galaxies of the Hubble Sequence to these erratic performances, more than 90% of the Universe is covered. To follow galaxies throughout this distance is important in understanding the principles of galaxy evolution. In this brief review, the author casts a glance over the confrontation of the observations with the most popular models.
