The 6-cm, 2-cm, and 2-mm H2CO lines in three dark clouds (L1551, L1317, and the cloud complex near NGC7023) have been mapped in order to investigate the physical conditions in these regions. Hyperfine analysis and model studies using a Monte Carlo procedure for calculating the radiative transfer indicate that the kinetic temperature and the density increase from the periphery to the central regions of L1551. Emission in the 2-mm H2CO line has been observed from a region near an embedded 2-micron source. A maximum H2 density of 40,000/cu cm is found for this region. In addition, maps of H2CO column density and 6-cm excitation temperature are presented. The observations of L1317 show this cloud to be divided into two components with different radial velocities. Hyperfine analysis has been performed on a high-quality 2-cm H2CO profile obtained towards the dark cloud L134. Some problems were encountered during the analysis of the L1317 and L134 observations. These may be due to existence of small-scale inhomogeneities in the clouds.
