The maximum annual relative sunspot numbers R(M) are predicted for the next 11-year sunspot cycle (no. 23) by assessing the relationship between odd and even sunspot cycles. The R(M) of cycle no. 22 is 157.6 which is inserted into an equation that describes the dependence between odd and even cycles. Values for the R(M) and for the smoothed monthly relative maximum (predicted for July) are given which suggest that the maximum number of sunspots in cycle no. 23 can exceed 200.
