The Hubble Legacy Archive (HLA) will allow users to obtain and explore high quality HST data products using the World Wide Web. The footprint tool is part of the HLA. It allows users to determine which HST images and spectra cover a given region of the sky by means of a web browser. The tool draws outlines of HST images and slits against a Digitized Sky Survey background image and provides information about each displayed data product. ACS and STIS are initially supported. The tool is based on based on a spherical geometric model and database search algorithms developed at Johns Hopkins University for the SDSS.
