By the method of linear regression, the correlations of the differential fluxes of space energetic protons and heavy ions in the solar quiet period with the neutron intensity measured at OULU Cosmic Ray Station are investigated respectively. Starting from the energy spectra of protons and heavy-ions, and combining with the neutron intensity data of OULU station, we have proposed a new method to calculate the differential fluxes of space protons and heavy ions from inversion of ground-level neutron intensities. Taking the energetic protons at the 4 energy channels P8 P11(350 420 MeV, 420 510 MeV, 510 700 KeV, >700 MeV) of the GEOS satellite and the element C measured by the ACE satellite as examples, we have compared the inversion results with the measured data, and found that they are fairly consistent. Besides, in order to explore the possible applications of this method in the description of space environments, a further verification is made by using the inversion result of the proton fluxes in Nov. and Dec. of 2006. It is concluded that with this method, the differential fluxes of space protons and heavy ions can be recovered very well from inversion of ground-level neutron intensity data.
