Using the Potential Field Source Surface Model (PFSS), Wang and Sheeley has obtained an anticorrelation between the solar wind speed at Earth and the flux expansion factor. However, PFSS model does not take into account the effects of current sheet; one of the shortcomings of the model. On the other hand, the Current Sheet Source Surface Model (CSSS) consider horizontal and volume currents. We present the results of a detailed analysis of the flux tube expansion factors (FTEs) obtained using the two models and their relationship with the near-Earth solar wind speed.
