The flute instability of a relativistic plasma is investigated theoretically; this instability is of interest for the theory of ejection of particles from pulsars. The boundaries of the instability are found, and the growth rate of perturbations are calculated for a plasma with arbitrary relativistic factor. It is shown that for any relativistic factor the pressure of a plasma that is confined stably in a curvilinear magnetic field cannot significantly exceed the magnetic field pressure. It is shown that in the ultrarelativistic limit the characteristic growth rate of the instability has the same order of magnitude as in the case of a weakly relativistic plasma.
