We show that the time-scales on which OSSE makes and repeats observations make possible a very sensitive search for γ-ray lines which are constrained to vary on compatible time-scales. The method resembles that by which the amplitude of single shot-like events is determined from the fluctuations in the sum of many events, even though individual shots are too weak to detect. The variability of the 1.275 MeV line from decay of 22Na in novae near the Galactic center (GC) is suitable for this analysis. Applying it to OSSE measurements of this line during 1991-1995, we obtain a value for the characteristic increase in line flux due to a single nova which is significant at a level ~2σ.
