HESS (High Energy Stereoscopic System) is an array of four 107 square meter Imaging Cherenkov Telescopes devoted to gamma-ray astronomy above 100 GeV. The first telescope started operation on June 10th, 2002 and the three other telescopes have been brought into operation in 2003. The full system has been operational since Dec. 2003. HESS's sensitivity is an order of magnitude better compared to the previous generation instruments, which currently makes it the most sensitive instrument in the GeV/TeV domain. We will report on the current status of the system and its performances in terms of sensitivity and resolution. We will also present the first results of the HESS array on the Crab Nebula, PKS2155, Mkn 421, the galactic centre and PSR 1259-63.
