Scientific paper

Balloon observations of auroras were conducted simultaneously with Swedish Viking satellite and EISCAT and STARE radar campaigns to study energy spectra and morphology of precipitating electrons in different substorm phases, the morphology of the X-ray precipitation zone, and the relationship between electric fields, field aligned currents, VLF waves, and precipitation zones. Telemetry, X-ray, and electric field instruments are described. Correlations between electric field and X-ray data, and between magnetic disturbances and electric fields are shown.
