We present the first results from a project to combine the data from the spectroscopic Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the ALFALFA survey within a velocity limit of 9000 km/s. The resulting data set will provide HI 21 cm and optical photometric measurements or limits for all galaxies in the sample. We have begun by combining the data in two separate regions. We will discuss the results from these two regions, plans to combine the rest of the data, and the science that will be addressed with the full data set. The combined data set will ultimately be made available to the public.
