We present the first results from our next-generation microlensing survey, the SuperMacho project. We are using the CTIO 4m Blanco telescope and the MOSAIC imager to carry out a search for microlensing of sources in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Our goal is to ascertain the nature of the population responsible for the microlensing rate detected by the MACHO collaboration (Alcock et. al ApJ 2000 542, 257). In December 2003 we will complete our third year of survey operations. We have detected more than 200,000 variable sources in the LMC, including Cepheids, RR Lyrae, Miras, eclipsing binaries, and other variables. The catalogues produced go several magnitudes deeper than MACHO and other previous surveys of the LMC. We have extracted candidate microlensing events for which we present light curves and related information.
