We present the first, preliminary results from a 237 ks Chandra ACIS
observation of the Hubble Deep Field area. The ultimate goals of this
project are to resolve the X-ray background and study the origin and
evolution of its sources. We acknowledge the financial support of NASA
grant NAS 8-38252.
