The J = 2 - 1 line of v = 0 SiO has been mapped in the central region of the L 1448 molecular outflow, with angular resolution of 2.8 x 2.1 arcsec. The observations reveal the presence of a highly collimated bipolar molecular jet consisting of four very well aligned high-velocity clumps that are elongated in the direction of the outflows axis. The collimation of this molecular jet takes place at distances smaller than 10 exp 16 cm from the energy source. The apparent acceleration of the jet is achieved in a region of 6 arcsec from the driving source. The dimensions of the high-velocity SiO clumps are 2 x 4 arcsec or less. The velocity structure of these high-velocity clumps, and their unusually high content of SiO molecules, strongly suggest that they are successive shocks in the narrow jet.
