We present the results of a study which investigates the radio properties of a large sample of recently discovered emission-line galaxies (ELGs) from the KPNO International Spectroscopic Survey (KISS). The database of the FIRST (Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty centimeters) radio survey was searched for radio/ELG coincidences for a total of 1126 ELGs from the initial KISS list. The optical ELGs are line selected (Hα ), and include objects as faint as B = 21. The radio survey has a flux limit of roughly 1 mJy, and has excellent spatial resolution ( ~ 5 arcsec) making matches with our optical data relatively unambiguous. A total of 89 KISS ELGs are found to have counterparts in the FIRST survey. We compare the optical properties of the radio-detected subsample with those of the overall KISS sample. In addition, we use existing follow-up spectra which are available for a subset of the ELGs to classify the radio ELGs by activity type (e.g., starburst, AGN). As one might expect, the radio-detected ELGs are among the most luminous in the KISS sample, and there is a fairly high percentage of Seyfert galaxies with radio detections. The radio ELGs are also significantly redder than the overall KISS sample. The majority of radio ELGs appear to be strong starbursting galaxies with relatively low radio luminosities. In addition, we carry out an optical-radio matching exercise using a complete sample of FIRST sources in three separate fields in order to investigate the optical characteristics of the radio objects. Only 38 of the 275 radio sources in these three fields are found to have optical counterparts in our images, which are complete to B = 21.5.
