The preliminary analysis of the 1997 Perseid meteor shower delivered a position of the young Perseid peak at lambda=139.72 (eq. 2000.0) and a traditional peak position at lambda=140.0 with ZHR=137+-7 and ZHR=105+-6, respectively. An additional distinct maximum occurs at lambda=140.32 with ZHR=102+-8. The first Perseid peak and this additional enhancement are accompanied by lower population indices of r=1.78 and r=1.87 compared to the surrounding values of 2.1-2.2.
