Radio observations of the eclipsed sun at 8 arcsec resolution have
revealed that the local source of a complex sunspot group consisted of
several separate features. In the intervening gaps the radio emission
was not enhanced. During the growth of an active region the brightness
temperature above the spots may reach 7.6 million K.
