Galaxy flybys are common in the hierarchical framework of ΛCDM. These high energy encounters are important because they may trigger bar formation, feed the black hole, strip the galaxy halo, and expel gas from the galaxy. We present the frequency of flyby encounters versus mergers from a high-resolution, zoom-in N-body simulation of a volume similar to the Local Group. We identify the halo substructure down to the sub-sub level with a mass resolution of 10 million solar masses and use an innovative technique to reconstruct the assembly history of all resolved structures. We discuss the cumulative effect of flybys on galaxy properties, black hole growth, and halo gas temperature throughout the assembly process.
