The wave and dispersion expressions are formulated for an ionospheric medium in the presence of a geomagnetic field and various dissipative forces by means of the Maxwell-Minkowski relations. The solutions describe the propagation of longitudinal and transverse waves allowing the derivation of the electric field within the medium during modification. The method permits the use of Thomson scattering data to study ionospheric physical processes during modification.
