Earth Magnetosphere: Methods Of Observation

Scientific paper

The feasibility of ground-based diagnostics of the position of the plasmapause according to measurements of electrons precipitating into the Earth's atmosphere is demonstrated. The method proposed is based on the difference of the minimal energies of the electrons precipitating from the outer and inner sides of the plasmapause. With the goal of improving the reliability of establishing the location of the plasmapause, the modulation characteristics of the precipitating electron fluxes are compared with the VLF-radiation intensities, using spectral and correlation analyses. The experimental results pointing to the feasibility of using the proposed method are presented.
