Emission measurements on a high-current hollow cathode using a high-resolution Fourier-transform spectrometer were combined with published lifetime data to determine the oscillator strengths of 114 Fe I lines in the wavelength range 260-1170 nm. More than 20 of the measured lines are well suited for a solar iron abundance study. The results agree with data in the literature within the limits of uncertainty. Further research, however, is needed to explain a discrepancy of 50 percent in the solar iron abundance as reported recently by the Oxford group.
