We propose to use Hydra on the Blanco telescope to observe candidate red giant members of the Canis Major dwarf galaxy, in order to explore its detailed chemical history. By comparison with a very large grid of synthetic spectra, we expect to be able to derive V_rad, [Fe/H], and [(alpha)/Fe] from high-resolution but low-S/N spectra provided by Hydra. We seek to determine if stars whose radial velocities are consistent with membership in the galaxy have an unusual pattern of [(alpha)/Fe] vs. [Fe/H] behavior. We have a Hydra run already scheduled at WIYN to study candidate red giants in the Monoceros Ring, and it will be very interesting to test the claimed relationship between that object and the Canis Major galaxy, using ``chemical tagging" as the metric.
